Why Create an Account?

Registration is free and optional. You can play as a guest without an account.

Privacy Policy

VerseBattles is committed to protecting your privacy.

Age Requirement

You must be 16 years of age or older to create an account or use the registration features of VerseBattles. Users under 13 should not create an account or submit personal information through the service. Guest play should be used only under parental or guardian supervision.

Data Collection

• Without an account: We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous gameplay events (correct answers, levels completed), device type, browser, and general location (country/region). No personal information is collected.
• With an account: If you register, we store your chosen username, email address (provided via Clerk authentication), gameplay progress, and any worlds you create. Authentication is handled securely by Clerk.
• We do not collect or store passwords — authentication is handled entirely by Clerk's secure service.
• Guest and offline play may still involve technical data collection needed to operate, secure, and measure the service.

Data Use

• Analytics data helps us improve the game experience
• Account data is used solely to provide game features (progress sync, world sharing, leaderboards)
• We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising or user profiling
• Data is not shared with third parties except Google (analytics) and Clerk (authentication)

Data Storage & Security

• Account data is stored securely in MongoDB with encryption at rest
• The game works offline — your local progress is stored in your browser and synced when online
• We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information

Your Rights

• You can delete your account at any time, which removes all your data from our servers
• You can disable analytics collection in your browser settings
• You can request a copy of your data by contacting us
• Registration is entirely optional — you can play the full game without an account

Children's Privacy

VerseBattles is not intended for children under 13 to create accounts or provide personal information directly. If we discover that a child has provided personal information in violation of this policy, we will investigate and, where appropriate, delete it. Parents and guardians can contact us to request review or removal of their child's data.

Licensing & Contributing

Open Source (AGPL v3)

This game is free to use, modify, and share under the GNU AGPL v3 license.

• ✅ Free for personal, educational, and non-profit use
• ✅ Self-host your own instance
• ✅ Create translations and custom content
• ✅ Modify and improve the code
• ⚠️ Modifications must be shared if you host publicly

Commercial Use

Commercial use requires a separate license. This includes:

• Charging for access to the game
• Using it as part of paid educational programs
• Keeping modifications proprietary
• Rebranding or white-labeling
